ELENIA PRODUCES DISTRIBUTION AND HEATING SERVICE

Elenia has its roots in Finnish local energy companies. After the Finnish electricity market was opened up to competition by the introduction of the Finnish Electricity Market Act in 1995, the Swedish energy company Vattenfall acquired Lapuan Sähkö, Hämeen Sähkö, Revon Sähkö, Heinola Energia, Keski-Suomen Valo and Hämeenlinnan Energia over a period of a few years. Under the corporate structure of Vattenfall Finland, these companies constituted subsidiaries including Vattenfall Verkko and Vattenfall Lämpö, which were subsequently sold by Vattenfall on 10 January 2012 as an enterprise sale to LNI Acquisition Oy. At the time of the transaction, LNI Acquisition Oy was indirectly owned by a consortium comprising Ilmarinen Mutual Pension Insurance Company, GS Global Infrastructure Partners II L.P. and GS International Infrastructure Partners II L.P. as well as 3i Infrastructure plc.

The acquired businesses became Elenia Group, which in 2012 comprised the parent company Elenia Oy, the electricity distribution provider Elenia Verkko Oy, the heating solutions provider Elenia Lämpö Oy and the customer service unit Elenia Asiakaspalvelu Oy. Elenia simplified its corporate structure on 1 January 2013 and Elenia Group now comprises Elenia Oy as the parent company and its wholly-owned subsidiary Elenia Lämpö Oy.

Business portfolio

Elenia continues the electricity distribution and heating business operations of its constituent companies from a newly established Finnish foundation. The Group’s main businesses are the parent company Elenia Oy, which provides electricity distribution services, and its subsidiary Elenia Lämpö Oy, which provides heating services. Elenia operates in one hundred municipalities in the Häme, Pirkanmaa, Central Finland, Southern Ostrobothnia and Northern Ostrobothnia regions. Map of operational regions

From the perspective of business operations and customers, the enterprise sale that led to the creation of Elenia opened new opportunities for service development. The main emphasis has been on improving customer service and developing new services based on smart grid and mobile technologies.

Elenia Group’s total revenue in 2012 was 299.6 million euros. At the end of the year, the Group had a total of 349 employees. Close cooperation with local partner companies is an integral part of the Group’s operations. Including the organisations in its partner network, the Group’s customers are served on a daily basis by over 1000 employees.
